Through the bustling crowds, warm summer breeze, scent of cheese curds in the air and music around every corner, you may have been lucky enough to find Penfield Children’s Center at Summerfest this year!
As a Kohl’s Cares Hometown Partner, Penfield set up a tent on the Summerfest grounds with other community partners like the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. At our tent, children could color, blow bubbles, play with voice recorders, test their agility on the balance beam and have fun feeling and guessing what was inside our sensory table. Since all of these activities can be used as therapeutic recreation for kids with special needs, they served as a fun way to illustrate the types of services we provide. At our information table, parents and kids could learn more about Penfield and receive a complimentary water bottle complete with information on early child development, an activity book, crayons and a wristband.
For all eleven days of Summerfest, volunteers from Penfield staffed the tent and helped raise awareness about the Kohl’s Building Blocks Program, a partnership with Kohl’s Department Stores that provides early educational and developmental programs, services and equipment to our kids. More than 4,600 water bottles were given out, and we even had a line to play at our sensory table!
Needless to say, Penfield Children’s Center truly hit a high note at Summerfest and we were excited for the opportunity to get out of the Center and make new friends. Look for us at the Wisconsin State Fair too, August 1-11!
