At Penfield Children’s Center, our mission is made possible by the incredible people who bring their talents, compassion, and dedication to work every day. This month, we’re proud to celebrate Juan Carlos (JC) Chang Shik, Business Intelligence Manager, on his 5-year anniversary with Penfield. 

When JC joined Penfield, he was searching for more than just a job. He wanted his work to make a meaningful difference. 

“I came to Penfield because I wanted my work to matter. I was looking for a place where I could use my skills to support a mission bigger than myself, and Penfield immediately felt like a place where people genuinely care about children, families, and each other.” 

Over the past five years, JC has played an important role behind the scenes, helping teams work more efficiently through data, systems, and process improvements. As Business Intelligence Manager, his work empowers staff across the organization to focus on what matters most: serving children and families. 

“My favorite part of my role is helping people do their best work. When a process becomes smoother, a system becomes clearer, or a team gets what they need, that’s the part that energizes me.” 

What keeps JC motivated each day is the people around him. 

“Penfield is full of staff who show up every day with heart, compassion, and dedication. Supporting them is what keeps me going.” 

Outside of work, JC enjoys tackling projects and working with his hands. In fact, he admits he can easily lose track of time in a hardware store. 

“If it involves tools, building, or fixing something, I’m all in.” 

For those starting their careers, JC offers simple but valuable advice: 

“Give yourself time to learn, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. This field is full of complexity and heart. Lean into both.”
