It’s common for kids (and parents) to feel a little bored and stir crazy in the wintertime.  Here are some tips to get the most out of your winter months and help break the potential monotony of the chilly season.

10. Watch winter themed movies. Here are some favorites:

  • Snow Dogs
  • Ice Age
  • Frosty the Snowman
  • Happy Feet
  • Snow Day
  • The Mighty Ducks

9. Attend a free day at the zoo. If it’s too cold outside, spend some time enjoying one of the indoor exhibits like the aquarium or reptile house.

8. Visit local children museums on free family admission days.

7. Create paper snowflakes.

6. Go ice skating at a local skating rink. If you can find an outdoor one that serves hot chocolate, even better!

5. Make a gingerbread house.

4. Find a local winter festival in your city that offers family friendly activities.

3. Bake your favorite cookies!  If you’re making cut-out cookies, make your own simple and fun icing using powdered sugar, milk and food coloring.

2. Make hot cocoa with lots of marshmallows! It’s easy to make an amazing cup of hot chocolate in just 15 minutes. Here is a perfect recipe for a chilly winter night: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/christmas-cocoa/61e82461-962e-43af-942a-7cd9d2efe104

1. Go outside and play in the snow. Whether it is building a snow man, making snow angels, or having a (friendly) snow ball fight, you can never go wrong with some outdoor fun.
