Celebrating 31 Years of Dedication: Ann Becker, VP of Programs

At Penfield Children’s Center, we are honored to celebrate Ann Becker, our Vice President of Programs, for 31 years of service and impact. Over the past three decades, Ann has helped guide and shape Penfield’s mission with a steady commitment to children and families.

When asked about her favorite part of the job, Ann doesn’t hesitate: “Seeing the children grow and learn. We often know babies from birth, and to watch them grow up and see their personalities develop is so much fun.” For Ann, those daily reminders of growth and discovery have been the heart of her work.

Ann also has advice for those starting in the human services field, wisdom she’s gained through years of experience:

• Stay mission focused. It’s easy to get lost in paperwork, regulations, or challenges, just keep reminding yourself why the work matters to you and who ultimately benefits from it—the children and families we serve. 
• Progress in human services is often incremental. Celebrate the small victories because collaboratively they all add up to big change over time. 
• Human services work can be emotionally demanding. Prioritize boundaries, self-care, and support systems so you can stay committed for the long run without burning out. 
• Seek out seasoned colleagues who can share wisdom, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. 
• The field changes often—funding, regulations, and best practices—so being a lifelong learner is key. 

Beyond her professional wisdom, Ann brings warmth and joy to Penfield in countless ways. One fun fact? She can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards! When you see Ann next, ask her to show you, it’s a fun way to celebrate her incredible journey.
