Twice the Joy: Penfield’s Second Community Baby Shower Celebration

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, Penfield Children’s Center hosted its second Community Baby Shower, presented by Kohl’s with generous support from Joie. It was an unforgettable day filled with joy, care, and connection.

The celebration took place indoors at Penfield Children’s Center and welcomed 241 guests, including 72 pregnant moms. What began as a new tradition last year has grown into a meaningful annual event that strengthens our community of mothers and families.

This free celebration once again brought together expecting moms from Penfield’s Growing Together pregnancy support group, participants in other Penfield programs, and families from surrounding neighborhoods. Our goal was to surround moms with the support, resources, and encouragement they deserve during one of the most transformative times in their lives.

Thanks to the continued partnership of Kohl’s, 100 diaper bags filled with newborn essentials and baby gear were distributed to moms in attendance. Each bag was carefully packed by Penfield staff with love and attention to detail, ensuring every mother left with both practical items and a reminder that her community cares.

This year, Joie went above and beyond by donating an entire semi-truck of baby items for moms and families. From car seats and strollers to high chairs and play yards, their generosity helped meet countless needs and filled the day with even more smiles.

Guests enjoyed creative and family-friendly activities such as making personalized button onesies and coloring stations, shared a delicious lunch, and connected with a variety of local organizations offering prenatal and postpartum resources.

We welcomed the following local organizations:

    • Community connectors
    • My swaddle
    • Betty Brinn Children’s Museum
    • City of Milwaukee- home environmental health
    • Children’s Wisconsin

We are so grateful to our wonderful volunteers who helped make the day a success. About 22 volunteers, including Penfield staff, Kohl’s team members, community volunteers, and a student from Marquette University, focused on setup, including moving all the tables and chairs indoors due to a rainy forecast. They also assisted with check-in, fun activities, the food station and tables, and gift distribution, ensuring every guest felt welcomed and supported. Their energy, kindness, and dedication made the event run smoothly and created a joyful experience for all the families in attendance.

An enormous thank-you to Kohl’s, Joie, our community partners, and the dedicated Penfield team who made this meaningful day possible. Together, we are continuing to build a village of support that celebrates healthy beginnings for every baby and every mom.
