Dr. Kay Toomey and Dr. Erin Ross recently visited Penfield from Denver, Colorado to teach a four day class on the Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding. This approach was developed by Dr. Toomey, a pediatric psychologist who has worked for over 20 years with children who are picky eaters or have specific challenges that disrupt normal eating behavior. Through this approach, she continues to successfully assess and treat children with feeding problems worldwide.
Penfield hosted the class and partnered with New Berlin Therapies to bring Dr. Toomey and Dr. Ross to Milwaukee to share their expertise. In addition to all of Penfield’s Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists, 15 additional therapists from Wisconsin and Illinois attended the class. “Offering this course to our therapists was a great advantage for Penfield because so many of the children we serve have feeding and sensory difficulties,” said Ann Becker, Administrator of Health Programs. “We are excited to implement this technique and expect to see significant positive changes with our children’s eating abilities and behaviors.”
