Young Artists, Big Impact: Refurbishing Little Libraries with Heart
At Penfield Children’s Center, we believe in the power of community partnerships and in the incredible things that happen when creativity meets compassion. One shining example of that is our recent collaboration with Leo Madson and Prism Youth Theater Company.
After we posted a volunteer opportunity on VolunteerMatch, Leo, Co-Founder and Artistic Director/Co-Founder of Prism Youth Theater Company, reached out with enthusiasm and offered to help restore two of our Little Libraries. We were thrilled and even more amazed by what happened next.
Leo picked up the libraries, took them apart, and poured time, care, and artistry into every detail. He sanded, repaired, and repainted them. He even shingled the roofs to make sure they could withstand Wisconsin weather. Then, with a creative touch that reflects both his artistic vision and deep community spirit, he themed one library for Camp Wilder and the other for Penfield Children’s Center.
Little Libraries are free, book-sharing boxes where anyone can take a book or leave a book. They provide access to books around the clock, encourage a love of reading, and help strengthen neighborhoods by creating a sense of community and connection. At Penfield, they’re a small but mighty way we promote literacy and joy for the children and families we serve.
We are so grateful to Leo and the team at Prism Youth Theater Company for their leadership, generosity, and dedication to uplifting others through art. Their commitment to placing young artists in meaningful leadership roles is inspiring, and this project is a perfect reflection of the impact they’re making.
