If you’ve walked past Penfield’s gate on 26th Street recently, it would have been hard for you to miss our latest, brightly colored additions: two little free libraries, for adults and kids! Started in 2009 by Todd Bol in Hudson, WI, the “Little Free Library” movement has been working its way around the world, bringing communities closer together through a love for reading.
Penfield’s little free libraries, beautifully painted by our Occupational Therapist (and artist in residence) Jayne, were unveiled at a back-to-school ice cream social we held for our families and neighbors in August. The libraries encourage patrons to take a book and leave a book so that the joy of reading can be shared, for free, among all members of our community. Since they’ve gone up, we’ve been delighted to see kids and families enjoying them every day. We welcome you to stop by and take a look for yourself!
