Earlier this year, Penfield created Sensory Friendly Story Time – a new opportunity for kids to learn and play together in a fun-filled and inclusive environment.  Hosted at the New Berlin Public Library and featuring the storytelling talent of Penfield’s special education teacher, Nick Strupp, this story time is designed to engage children ages 2 to 7 through movement, music, stories and play.  It is open to all children, with a special emphasis on those who have difficulty sitting still or challenges with sensory integration.

Providing hands-on activities gives children who have trouble focusing an added opportunity to engage in the story and gain exposure to reading.  Whether it’s helping create a picture of a caterpillar on a felt board while reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or singing a song about painting while reading I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More, children have the chance to interact with the story and bring the characters to life.

Sensory Friendly Story Times are free and open to the public, with upcoming story times scheduled for:

Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m.

Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m.

Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m.

To register for a Sensory Friendly Story Time, please call the New Berlin Library at (262) 785-4980.
