The Penfield Children’s Center recently hosted its annual Croquet Match, a beloved tradition that brings together community leaders, supporters, and teams for a day of friendly competition and fundraising. Held at Estabrook Beer Garden, this year’s event featured an exciting twist with teams participating in speed croquet, a fast-paced variant of the classic game.

Brief History and What Took Place

In 1995, Penfield Children’s Center inaugurated its first fundraising event with a spirited Croquet Match that brought together the County Executive and the Mayor in a friendly competition. Today, we celebrate our roots by returning to this original fundraiser, inviting local companies to join us for a day of fun and camaraderie on the croquet field.

This event is more than just a competition, it’s a celebration of community spirit. Participants and supporters are encouraged to enjoy themselves while rallying behind their teams and showing their support for the children and families of Penfield Children’s Center. At the end of the Croquet Match, two teams will emerge victorious: one for their skill on the field, scoring the most wickets, and the other for their generosity in raising the highest donations.

Highlights

One of the highlights of this year’s event was the friendly matchup between Mayor Cavalier Johnson and County Executive David Crowley. This matchup, paying homage to a tradition that started 29 years ago, was a momentous occasion. Both leaders are staunch supporters of Penfield Children’s Center and the Milwaukee community, making their participation a testament to their dedication. Mayor Johnson emerged victorious, claiming the coveted Golden Croquet Ball and earning bragging rights for the year.

Speed Croquet Winners

Speed croquet is a variant of traditional croquet that emphasizes a faster pace of play. In speed croquet, the rules are typically simplified to allow for quicker turns and faster movement around the course. This version of the game often focuses on agility, quick decision-making, and strategic placement of shots to complete the course in the shortest amount of time possible. It is designed to be more dynamic and energetic compared to traditional croquet, making it a popular choice for competitive and recreational play alike. (croquetamerica.com)
