Penfield Children’s Center Joins TMJ4’s 2025 Community Baby Shower

We are incredibly grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of TMJ4’s 2025 Community Baby Shower, an initiative dedicated to providing essential baby items to families in need throughout Milwaukee. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have received much-needed donations that will make a meaningful difference for the families we serve.

A Community Effort to Support Families

From January 6–31, TMJ4 partnered with WaterStone Bank to collect baby essentials, including diapers, wipes, formula, blankets, clothes and other baby necessities.

These donations were distributed to six nonprofit organizations, including Penfield Children’s Center, to support families in our community. We are honored to have been a first-time participant in this initiative, having the opportunity to further support our families.

How These Donations Will Support Families

The items received through the Community Baby Shower will directly benefit mothers enrolled in our Growing Together program. Growing Together provides group pregnancy care, combining medical care, education, and peer support to ensure that expectant mothers have access to vital resources for a healthy pregnancy and postpartum journey.

With 85% of Penfield families living in poverty, the cost of newborn care—estimated at $100–$300 per month—can be overwhelming. Donations of diapers, wipes, and formula help alleviate some of these financial burdens, ensuring that babies have the essentials they need in their first months of life.

This campaign would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our Penfield staff.

A special thank you to Lori Woolverson, Healthcare Equity Specialist, for attending multiple interviews and sharing the real impact these donations have on the mothers in our programs. Her heartfelt words helped highlight the importance of this initiative and the difference it makes in the lives of families we serve.

We also want to recognize Ann Becker, Mark Stevens, and Karie Anderson for their incredible efforts in sorting donations, picking up all the contributions, and ensuring they made their way back to Penfield. Their dedication and teamwork exemplify the passion our staff has for supporting children and families in need.
