Penfield Children’s Center provides early intervention therapy that includes occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy to infants and young children. Penfield is also a contract provider for the The Milwaukee County Children, Youth, and Family Services Special Education Birth to Three Program.

Our Programs

BIRTH TO 3 PROGRAM

Birth to 3 Program

Penfield Children’s Center is a provider for The Milwaukee County Children, Youth, and Family Services Special Education Birth to Three Program. This program is for children ages birth to 3 years old who are suspected of having developmental delays that may indicate the need for early intervention services. Children ages birth to 3 who are eligible for services have a:

  • 25% delay in one or more areas of development (social and emotional, cognitive, speech/language or motor)
  • Atypical development that is adversely affecting the child’s overall development
  • Diagnosed condition, with a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay
  • Diagnosed hearing or vision impairment

THERAPY

Therapy – OT, PT, Speech

Penfield provides early intervention occupational, physical and speech therapy to children in-home and at our center. Our trained therapist works with the child and caregiver to address concerns and provide individualized support based on the child’s needs.

Speech Therapy
  • Articulate syllables and words
  • Understand verbal and nonverbal cues
  • Oral motor skills
  • Chewing and swallowing
Physical Therapy
  • Increased mobility
  • Gross motor skills ex. sitting, crawling, walking
  • Navigate obtaining and using equipment such as braces, walker, wheelchairs
Occupational Therapy
  • Holding a spoon for meals
  • Reaching for and grabbing a toy
  • Dressing themselves
  • Sensory processing disorder

BEHAVIOR CLINIC

Mental Health

Penfield’s Behavior Clinic is an outpatient mental health clinic that addresses behavioral and emotional concerns along with therapy and support for young children exposed to trauma. Our clinic serves children aged 6 and under.

Behavioral and emotional concerns may look like:
  • Temper tantrums
  • Sleep problems
  • Hyperactivity
  • Aggression
  • Trouble with separation
Trauma symptoms may look like:
  • Sleep problems
  • Isolation/avoidance
  • Play reenactment
  • Separation anxiety
  • Blank stares
