Big thank you to The Catholic Community Foundation for the very generous grant of $15,000 that will benefit our Special Care Nursery. Their generosity will allow us to serve more medically complex children at Penfield!
Penfield’s Special Care Nursing Services improve the lives of infants and young children with significant medical conditions and developmental delays who primarily live in Milwaukee. For 34 years, the Special Care Nursery has provided medically-complex children with skilled nursing care, medication management, respite and hospice care, child care, special education services, and physical, occupational, and speech therapy. In January 2019, Penfield expanded the Special Care Nursery to three fully-inclusive classrooms that provide medically-based child care for infants and toddlers with special needs alongside their typically-developing peers. Penfield’s team of nurses and certified nursing assistants also provide health assessments, medication management, and staff training across Penfield Children’s Center, serving children up to age six, and Penfield Montessori Academy, serving K3-2nd grade. Recognizing that 87% of children at Penfield live in poverty, nursing services are provided without cost to ensure accessibility for families.
